Universal is projecting a $24-million opening weekend for The Bad Guys this morning—the best debut for a DreamWorks Animation film since How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019, and for any digitally-animated movie since Encanto’s $27.2 million back in November. Given that Encanto arrived on a massive wave of publicity and went on to win the Best Animated Film Oscar, Bad Guys’s opening is an impressive result, and a good sign that families are returning to theaters in larger numbers.
